| | Got an invitation from a friend to attend free archery lessons, and so I did. Since I was new to the sport, the instructor had me look at his right eye through a hole made by my hands, and because I leaned left side first it was deemed that I should use the bow left handed even though I'm naturally right handed. Some interesting tidbits I remember the instructor telling us: 2-1-3 whistle rule (2 means line up by the white line, one foot on each side of line, 1 means pick arrow and fire, 3 means fetch arrows), the thumb and pinky are to clasp together and you hold the string with the other three fingers (index and ring fingers should make contact with the string at first finger joint while the middle finger middle segment of finger), the arrow has three fletchings and the odd colored one is to face away from the bow, the arrow is to be pulled back so that the string makes contact with your chin before firing. The first time I fired they were way too high and the instructor mentioned it, so I decide to forget aiming from my eye's pov and just aim a little lower than what I normally would do with the eyes--boom--closer to the bull's eye. I plan to go again next week. I actually tried archery at a ranch before but the staff there never really taught us how to fire an arrow, so my arrows rarely made it to the target. I hope to fire the arrows farther than 15 yards next time. Legend has it Robin Hood fired an arrow into another arrow that hit bull's eye from 200 yards. That's crazy good. |
